The paper examines a method for determining the X, Y, Z components of the geomagnetic field strength vector from the absolute value of the field. The solution to the problem is obtained on the basis of formulas which express the horizontal component through the vertical component at a given point. Attention is given to numerical realization of the method and to numerical stability and accuracy considerations.
