The IRAM 30-cm telescope has been used to observe a number of methanol (CH3OH) transitions, including four lines of 13CH3OH towards OMC-1. The authors also observed selected methanol lines towards some of the clumps in the OMC-1/OMC-2 region. The mapping data shows that the methanol emission is extremely peaked towards the KL-region as well as towards the 400 μm source 100arcsec to the south. The optical depths of the CH3OH lines towards Orion-KL are found to be not high. The 13C species may be considerably enriched in methanol. In the ridge condensations, the authors derive lower CH3OH abundances (10-8) similar to the values found in dark clouds. The H2 densities in these condensations are found to be of order 106cm-3 consistent with earlier results. This suggests a high degree of clumping even in regions far from Orion-KL.
