The response of midday values of f0F2 to large-scale meteorological disturbances of the lower atmosphere is analyzed. It is shown that planetary waves with zonal wave numbers of m = 1, m = 2, propagating below, make a contribution to variations of the critical frequency. In periods of winter deformations of the stratospheric cyclone, conditions arise which favor decreases of f0F2 over regions of high stratospheric pressure and increases of f0F2 over regions of low pressure.
