The formation and evolution of terrestrial meteorite craters are discussed. The structure of various types of crater is described, and the classification of craters as impact or explosion and simple or complex is outlined. The number of terrestrial meteorite craters and astroblemes with diameters of 1 km or more is estimated to be 108,000; their average distribution on earth's surface is determined as 0.72 per 1000 sq km. A list of reliably identified terrestrial meteorite structures is presented which includes 74 objects known as of 1975.
