This thesis consisted in the search for extrasolar planets using the radial-velocity technique applied to a sample of about 1000 stars in the northern hemisphere, observed with the ELODIE spectrograph (Haute Provence Observatory, France). The strategy was based on the follow-up of metal-rich stars considering that, according to several studies, these stars are more likely to host close-in giant planets, the so-called Hot Jupiters, than stars with solar metal content or poorer than the Sun. The proximity of Hot Jupiters to their parent stars increase the probability of a transit, a very important phenomenon in which the planet crosses the stellar disk as viewed from Earth. The transit characterisation provides the determination of a few parameters of the system, such as mass and radius of the planet, that cannot be obtained through radial velocities only. This programme conducted to the discovery of 9 new extrasolar systems, out of which 2 with a planetary transit.
