Features characterizing the spatial distribution of types of Es ionization and the behavior of fbEs, fmin, and F0F2 frequencies in the region of the Harang discontinuity (HD) are examined on the basis of ionospheric-sounding data obtained at a chain of meridional stations. It is shown that changes in the type of Es reflection and increases of fbEs toward lower latitudes are connected with the HD. The results obtained are used to examine the role of conductivity and electric field in the development of the western electrojet in the evening-premidnight sector.
