We report long slit, spatially resolved, high resolving power spectroscopy of Mercury's surface for longitudes 260 - 320 degrees. Spectra extend from 0.8 - 5.0 micrometers. Spectral features indicative of common silicate materials are found. There are variations in the depth and shape of the spectral features at different latitudes and longitudes. Using reflectance and thermal modeling of the surface the spectra are corrected for the reflected component from the Sun and for the thermal component that becomes important longer than 2 micrometers.
We thank the IRTF for providing support at the telescope and we thank NASA and NSF for research support.
