A proper motion study of cluster membership is reported for 502 stars in the field of the young open cluster NGC 6709. Membership probabilities were computed based on relative proper motions seen on five pairs of Yerkes 40-inch plates. The resulting membership probability distribution, with a maximum probability of 0.90, shows a clean separation between the 63 stars identified as cluster members on the basis of a membership probability over 50%, and the remaining field stars.
