An analysis is made of Intercosmos-19 topside-ionosphere sounding data
obtained during solstice periods under high solar activity. It is shown
that the most probable causes of the longitudinal effect in the
equatorial anomaly are neutral wind and electrodynamic drift, with the
contribution of the neutral wind predominating.
