Partial results of the French Intercomparison Ozone campaign in June, 1981, are reported. Daily average total-ozone measurements were made at Observatoire de Haute-Provence (OHP) on Mt. Chiran with Dobson spectrophotometer, SISAM IR interferometer, and scanning filter photometer; at OHP St. Michel (at midnight) with a lidar system; and from NOAA-6 TOVS data for the OHP zone. All of the instruments are found to record the variations in ozone concentration in a self-consistent manner, and the absolute values obtained with the different instruments agree within + or - 10 percent over the whole campaign. Similar results are obtained in a comparison of Dobson measurements at OHP, at Biscarosse (550 km west of OHP), and at Arosa (350 km northeast of OHP) with those from the TOMS instrument on Nimbus VII, and in a comparison of OHP and balloon-borne-instrument measurements (flown from Gap, 70 km north of OHP) on two days. The data reduction techniques employed and the reasons for individual discrepancies are discussed.
