An automatic system for the measurement of the absolute spectral irradiance in the 800 to 2500 nanometer region is described. Direct comparison of radiation source is carried out. The automatic system is constructed to provide calibrated sources for instrument and measurement system calibration. The components of the measurement system, as well as evaluation of the different source of the errors contributing to the uncertainty of spectral irradiance measurements, are described. The main characteristics of the built system, besides the accuracy, are the incorporation of low noise and high sensitivity amplifier and the possibility of automatically controlling the measurement by means of a personal computer. The total estimated uncertainty of the measurement system is evaluated to be less than 1%.
