The position of the polarization plane in the solar corona during the
total eclipse of July 11, 1991 was measured with a rotating polaroid
with the axis oriented to the radius at an angle of +/- 45 deg. The
polarization plane was everywhere tangential to the solar surface with
an accuracy of up to 1 percent.
