Results are presented from the STEREOTOP rocket experiment performed December 1, 1978 in the Volgograd region. A beam of electrons, with energy of 3-5 keV and current of 0.180 A, was injected into the lower ionosphere. Atomic oxygen green-line emission, arising from the interaction of the beam with the ionosphere, was recorded by a modulation photometer. The height distribution of the deactivation rate of the O(' S) state of the atomic oxygen was determined.
