Close Binaries: Rotation, Close Binaries: Orbits, Close Binaries: Synchronization
Scientific paper
The present paper is a continuation of paper I which is devoted to the study of the rotation of close binaries. A list of some main physical parameters of the components is compiled. On this basis, three rotational parameters, the synchronous rotation velocity (V sin i)syn, the instantaneously synchronous rotation velocity at the periastron Ve, and the quantity (F-1), a measure of synchronism, are calculated for those stars with eccentric orbits; while only two parameters, (V sin i)syn and (F-1), for the remainder. Statistics and analyses reveal that most of the binaries discussed here are synchronous or near-synchronous systems. In addition, the (F-1) values for detached systems are distributed over a wide range.
