For the case of absorbing and scattering media taking the form of a shell of finite thickness, an expression is derived for the mean number of photon scattering, together with an expression for the probability of such an emergence of absorbed photons. These considerations are prompted by the work of Sobolev (1966, 1967) for the case of media having plane geometry.
