Comparison of experimental values of the electron temperature and density of an argon plasma produced by an intense shock wave to values calculated for a known shock front velocity. Experimental values of temperature and density obtained by measurements of the continuum intensity are found to show good agreement with calculated values. On the other hand, experimental values of temperature obtained on the basis of measurements of the intensity of optically thick lines show poor agreement with calculated values.
