A mathematical method for investigating the three-dimensional structure of a planetary nebula on the basis of a plane chart of its isophotes is described. The nebula is modeled as a transparent toroidal formation of constant density. With this method one can determine the geometrical parameters of the torus and its inclination to the line of sight. A comparison between the isophotes observed for the nebula NGC 7662 and those predicted by the model indicates very fair agreement.
