The ignition of the forest canopy during the Tunguska event is examined by using a mathematical model of forest fires. The dimensions of the ignition zone for fixed explosion energies are determined for different parameters of the forest canopy. Based on mathematical experiments, the explosion energy that agrees best with the available data is determined. The temperature fields and the velocities and concentrations of the gas phase components are determined for different points in time.
