Geological-morphological data on the topographic surface features, the effects of solar and cosmic rays on the lunar surface, and regional variations of the chemical composition are interpreted as resulting from the previous action of mass transfer mechanisms. Data obtained in the Surveyor, Apollo, and Lunokhod programs are reviewed, and the transport and material pick-up mechanisms are evaluated with respect to their effectiveness. Means of studying mass transfer under conditions prevailing on the moon are examined.
