As a model for the Ly alpha forest we examine intergalactic clouds confined by the gravity of cold dark matter (CDM), so-called minihalos. First, we study the interaction of minihalos with supersonic gas flows to consider the evolution of gas clouds via ram pressure using two-dimensional hydrodynamical calculations. Such a supersonic wind will occur when a minihalo moves with supersonic velocity relative to the surrounding intergalactic matter or when a blast wave or detonation wave, which is caused by the activity of quasars, overtakes the minihalo. We determine the conditions for cloud destruction and obtain the time scale for gas ablation. We find that the blast or detonation wave ejected from a quasar with energy larger than 1063 ergs almost completely blows out the gas from the dark halo out to a radius of a few megaparsecs from the source quasar. Second, we explore the case when minihalos make a cluster, which is naturally expected in the CDM cosmogony. Such a cluster will evolve to a group of minihalos or protogalaxies within which each minihalo moves with the virial velocity of the group and feels the ram pressure of surrounding intergalactic medium. Taking the mass and radius of a galaxy for that of a cluster of minihalos, we expect that the gas of a given minihalo would be completely stripped in the viral stage. As a result, the net clustering of Ly alpha clouds will be suppressed, in agreement with observations of Ly alpha forests.
