The isotope composition of xenon formed under the effect of cosmic rays in iron meteorites is compared with that of xenon produced in targets irradiated with high-energy protons in an accelerator facility. Mass spectroscopy was used to study xenon-isotope yields in deep-fission reactions induced by 1-GeV protons in Er, Tu, Ta, W, and Re. The results indicate that the proposed comparative approach can be used to develop methods for determining the preatmospheric mass of iron meteorites on the basis of stable Xe isotopes.
