Geopotential: Models

Scientific paper

After reviewing the historical context of mass point grid spectral techniques, the author proceeds to describe the principles of operation and parts making up the mass point geopotential modelling system, and the way this system was used to perform the numerical test inversion experiment of the IAG subcommission "Numerical and Approximation Methods". The author reports on this experiment, describing the method and software used, details of the processing sequence, a description of the hardware and software environment the work was done in, and some of the statistics of the inversion results.
