Mass loss rates are predicted as a function of surface gravity for a stellar mass M* = 0.6 M&sun;, effective temperatures Teff = 50000 K and 60000 K and metallicities between solar and Z/Z&sun; = 0.01. In addition, it is checked in which cases the one component description of radiation driven winds may be justified. For central stars of planetary nebulae with log g ⪉ 4.7 the results predict mass loss rates in the range 10-10 M&sun; / yr ⪉ dot M ⪉ 10-7 M&sun; / yr where the dependence of dot M on the metallicity increases to larger gravities. For hydrogen-rich white dwarfs with log g ⪆ 7.0 and solar or subsolar metallicity no steady outflow of all elements can exist.
