The values of period changes for six eclipsing binaries with powerful circumstellar envelopes are used to determine mass transfer rates. From comparison of mass transfer rates and shell mass values, an expression is derived which describes the initial character of the outflow of matter, allowing the determination of the time interval of the shell-matter substitution. A mass transfer rate of 3 x 10 to the 20 g/s is derived for the system RY Sct. It is concluded that a certain amount of matter accumulates in the nearby regions of the system for certain mass transfer rates.
