Eclipsing Binary Stars, Mass Transfer, Stellar Mass Ejection, Angular Momentum, Light Curve
Scientific paper
Observational data of 55 Algol-type eclipsing binaries having lightcurves solved by means of modern numerical methods, have been considered in order to check some theoretical views on mass loss and on mass transfer in Algols. The conservative case, the approaches of Plavec et al. (1973) and of Drobyshevski and Reznikov (1974) have been analyzed. Evidence of mass and angular momentum loss has been found at least in some Algols; not negligible contradictions between some theoretical non-conservative attempts and the observational scenario still persist.
