We use the dark matter halos from 70 N-body simulations to study the properties of the mass function for a ΛCDM cosmology and also for different wCDM cosmologies. We provide a very accurate fitting formula for the mass function at z=0 for the ΛCDM cosmology over a range of 1011- 1015 solar mass. We also study the universality of the mass function and find that the mass function evolves by as much as 10 % between redshifts z=0 and 2. We provide a fitting formula for the redshift evolution of the mass function and a universal fitting form for the redshift range of our data. We investigate the universality of the mass function for the wCDM cosmologies and find that the mass function is universal at the 5 % level over widely varying cosmologies if the redshift evolution is taken into account.
