The main objectives of the Mars Observer Mission are reviewed. The activity of the mission focuses on geoscience and climatology, with observations to be made of the Mars atmosphere, surface, and interior. The mission will include seven scientific experiments involving gamma-ray spectroscopy, magnetometry, surface and atmospheric imaging, atmospheric sounding, laser altimetry, gravity mapping, and thermal emission spectroscopy. The mission plan and mapping operations are briefly discussed.
