An analysis of compositional and petrological data on the Apollo mare basalt samples and the Luna specimens indicated that 12 volcanic units can be identified and their parental magma compositions determined. The basalts include Apollo 15 green, Apollo 17 orange, and Apollo 11 and 15 red glass units; the compositions of three general magma types can be estimated using the Apollo 17 VLT soil fragments and the Luna 16 and 24 soils. The compositions of the 24 magmas are plotted in phase diagrams.
