The detection of short-period planets, or hot Jupiters, initially surprised astronomers. However, fossil imprints in the orbits of this ensemble of exoplanets have tremendous scientific value. The high 10% transit probability makes these prime candidates to measure planetary radii, model interior structure, observe exoplanet atmospheres, derive coplanarity of orbits and even to observe exoplanet weather.
