Solar Wind: Density Fluctuations

Scientific paper

The density and velocity structure of the solar wind can be studied by examining the scintillation experienced by radio waves from distant radio sources as they propagate through the interplanetary medium. Observations taken over 5 years (1990 - 94) with the Cambridge IPS array are being analysed, and it should soon be possible to produce daily maps of excess scintillation, thus revealing large-scale density fluctuations in the solar wind.
