This paper presents results of a manned Mars mission study that consisted of developing a mission scenario and conceptually designing a vehicle architecture to transport a crew to Mars and its vicinity. The mission scenario was based on research that indicates Phobos or Deimos could be used as a staging outpost for further exploration and exploitation of Mars and its moons. The vehicle designed presents several subsystem concepts which incorporate existing and near-term technology.
