Solar Activity Cycles
Scientific paper
The cyclic pattern of "winter" temperatures in Petersburg in 1775 - 1982 is investigated. It is shown that this pattern exhibits distinct 11-year, 22-year, and longer cycles. The spectrum of Δt variations in the winter correlates with the spectrum of magnetic-activity variations whereas the spectrum of Δt variations in the summer correlates with the spectrum of variations in relative sunspot numbers. The "secular" cycle in air temperature variations is characterized by an alternation of the sign of Δt. Thus the complete cycle has a period of ≍180 years. This confirms the reality of the "double" secular solar-activity cycle.
