Ion reflection at the transition layer by the cross-shock potential provides the fundamental dissipation mechanism for a quasi-perpendicular shock. Pickup ions (PUI) can be significantly energized by the multiple reflection (MRI) mechanism, which can resolve the injection problem for the anomalous cosmic rays. In this work we investigate the role of reflected ions in modifying the Rankine-Hugoniot (RH) jump conditions in a simple one-fluid MHD formalism and deduce some important outcomes of these modified RH conditions.
