A detailed magnetization map of the Terra Meridiani region, located at 0,0 ±20 degrees, will be presented. This map was created using Mars Global Surveyor magnetometer (MGS MAG) data from ~400km altitude that was downward continued to the surface. Data from the MGS aerobraking phase contains tracks in this region at altitudes of only 110-190 km, revealing localized persistent Br signatures between -268 and +278 nT, with standard deviations of 24 and 17 nT respectively. These signatures, although noisy, coincide with areas of strongest magnetization on the downward continued map at corresponding altitudes. The lack of large scale multi-ring basins in this area may offer a less disturbed setting for the examination of magnetization. Mineralogic and chemical measurements from the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) Opportunity, currently exploring Terra Meridiani, may constrain possible magnetic mechanisms. The decay of the magnetic field with altitude, along with mineralogic data, will be used to characterize the magnetization. Great faults have been proposed within the Terra Meridiani area to have been formed along with magnetic reversals and crustal spreading analogous to Earth's seafloor spreading. These faults will be investigated in further detail, comparing the offsets in magnetization with the surface conditions revealed by Opportunity.
