Differential rotation of a standard accretion disk amplifies the magnetic field. This may result in a magnetic active corona surrounding the disk. In this paper the height and pressure of a disk corona are examined, scaling laws for the magnetic structures are derived and their thermal stability is treated. It is shown that, although the temperature gradients are large, the heat conduction along the field lines is given by the classical Spitzer formula. Using the scaling laws the author constructed a simple model for an accretion disk with a magnetically structured corona, derived characteristic timescales and compared them with the time variability of Cygnus X-1.
