A program for direct detection of the magnetic field longitudinal
component in single late giants has started in the framework of a
Bulgarian-French-Canadian collaboration. The spectropolarimeter NARVAL
and the 2m telescope at Pic du Midi, France were used. First results and
possibilities for a further development of this study are presented.
