It is shown that absorption of long-wave sound, amplified by a nonlinear
'reversal' process, leads to effective magnetic-field generation in the
ionosphere due to electron thermal conductivity. The amplitude of the
magnetic field, depending on ionospheric parameters, varies from a few
nTl to tens of nTl.
