The spectroscopic determinations of the solar magnetic fields are based on the Zeeman effect observed in relation to a number of absorption lines of the solar spectrum. It is attempted to deduce indirectly certain characteristics of the magnetic field in a sunspot, giving attention to morphological aspects and the magnetic polarities. The results of the investigation are illustrated with the aid of a number of pictures.
