Chemical abundances in six H-II regions in M83, a bright southern spiral of class SABc I-II, are examined. Detailed multicolor photometry is reported and the analysis of data to determine the present and past rate of star formation is discussed. Attention is given to spectroscopic observations, reduction techniques and an examination of the abundances of He, N, O, and S across the disk of M83.
