Scientific paper

The development of theories concerning the nature of the galaxy M 82 is reviewed. The significance of the system of filaments extending from the center of the galaxy and of the dust cloud surrounding the galaxy is addressed. A model that explains these phenomena as well as the broadband radiation in the galactic core and the velocity gradients observed along the galaxy's minor axis is summarized.
