An improved estimate of the nucleon-to-electron ratio in the cosmic ray
component of the starburst galaxy M 82 is presented. The ratio depends
on the filling factor for the hot gas. The minimum energy assumption for
calculating the magnetic field in M 82 is shown to be consistent with
the complete data set available for that galaxy.
