We investigate Ly-alpha radiative transfer in the most general case of a dusty, multi-phase medium with random gas motions and also galactic winds. We develop a means of speeding up Monte-Carlo simulations of radiative transfer by up to a factor of a million, as well as a simple analytic model which agrees well with the full Monte Carlo results. With this, we study Ly-alpha equivalent widths and multi-phase galactic outflows, and uncover the surprising result that Ly-alpha can preferentially escape in a dusty, multi-phase medium.
