An investigation of the luminosity-H I width relation was conducted, using magnitudes at V(5500 A), r (6738 A), and IV (10500 A) of the Virgo cluster spirals. The slopes of the relations vary from -9 at the visible and red wavelengths and to -10 at the near infrared and the infrared wavelengths. An intercomparison of residuals indicates that the scatter of 0.46 mag in the luminosity-H I width relation is much higher than the errors in the final corrected magnitudes, about 0.15 mag, in all the observed wavelengths. When 'kinematic' instead of isophotal magnitudes are used, the scatter is reduced only marginally to + or - 0.40 mag. It is found that most of the scatter in the relation is intrinsic.
