Hydrocarbon fluid inclusions have been synthesized in epitaxial overgrowths in tetragonal potassium dihydrogen phosphate, KH 2 PO 4 , (KDP) crystals at atmospheric pressure and constant temperatures (temperature variation < ±0.01° C ). Natural and synthetic hydrocarbons were either trapped separately or trapped with an aqueous and/or a gaseous phase. Experimental trapping of these fluids represents a powerful new tool for understanding inclusion-formation phenomena, especially in the temperature range of diagenesis. These hydrocarbon fluid inclusions are well suited for calibration of established individual fluid inclusion analysis methods such as FT-IR, Raman, and UV-fluorescence, and for the calibration of micro Fourier Transform NIR Raman spectra ( FTNIRR), a rather new technique applied to the analysis of fluorescent hydrocarbon fluid inclusions. The synthetic isothermal inclusions also make it possible to obtain microthermometric calibration at temperatures from -2 to 105°C with an accuracy equal to ±0.1° or better.
