We examine the possibility of dynamo action in a low-mass star, component of a low-mass binary (LMB). Our analysis is based on the calculations of a nonconservative evolution of a system initially consisting of a 1.4 Msun neutron star and a 1 Msun companion. We perform our calculations for three cases, where the companion is initially a main-sequence star (Xc = 0.45) or a star with a small degenerate helium core of mass MHe = 0.026 or 0.06 Msun, and where a companion fills its Roche lobe at the orbital period of a system Porb ˜9.6, 21.6, and 25.4 hr, respectively. We show that to maintain LMB evolution driven by stellar "magnetic braking," an efficient mechanism producing large-scale surface magnetic fields in a donor star is needed. We discuss the relevance of the dynamo mechanisms, including those with cycles, to the late stages of evolution of a donor star in an LMB.
