The issue of whether brown dwarfs exist is addressed. Attempts to detect
brown dwarfs are reviewed, and the possibility that faint stars
discovered recently are brown dwarfs is discussed. The possibility that
brown dwarfs may comprise all or most of the local dark matter is
examined.
