We have analyzed data from the Burst and Transient Experiment (BATSE) Spectroscopy Detectors (SDs), on board NASA's Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory. Preece et al. (1996) have previously identified the low-energy (~ 10 keV) characteristics of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and found 14% of 86 bright bursts showed low-energy excesses greater than 5σ above the extrapolated spectral model. The current work extends the previous study by analyzing GRBs for which two SDs meet the selection criteria. Essentially, we required that the GRB be bright, and that adequate low-energy coverage existed from two SDs, not just one. A sequence of spectral fits were performed on a series of independent spectra making up the time history of each burst, with an additional low-energy component tracking the excess. We studied correlations between the low-energy spectral fit parameters and the dynamic GRB characteristics. Five GRBs met the selection criteria, of which three exhibited a correlation between the low-energy amplitude parameter and the photon flux during the majority of the event. No correlation was apparent for the remaining two GRBs.
