There has been a lot of discussion recently regarding the nature of the early martian climate as inferred from surhce geomorphological and from geochemical arguments. I get the sense that a lot of people believe that these results are not consistent and that there is no consensus as to what early Mars was like. I would like to try to summarize what we do know and what we do not know from each approach, and what the real constraints are that are imposed by each technique.
