The longitudinal picture of the development of an ionosphere disturbance at F1-layer heights, associated with sudden changes in the solar-wind parameters on January 25 - 26, 1974, is examined in the middle-latitude region (50°N) in conjunction with AE-C satellite observations of the neutral and ionic components and the temperatures of the neutral atmosphere and plasma. A sharp decrease in [O+] and an increase in [NO+] and [O2+] were observed at night-sector longitudes during the period of growth of the disturbance. It is shown that the observed middle-latitude distribution of the disturbance of the nighttime composition is linked with features of the diurnal variations of the thermosphere circulation.
