Intercosmos-19 data on the longitudinal control of the position of the main ionospheric trough (MIT) are examined. An analysis is made of electron-temperature variations in the quiet subauroral ionosphere during the winter at near-midnight hours during a period of high solar activity in both hemispheres. It is shown that the positions of the MIT maximum and of the subauoral Te peak practically coincide at all longitudes. An additional Te maximum whose position does not depend on longitude is found equatorward of this peak; it is suggested that this maximum may be connected with the residual ring currrent of a preceding storm.
